D1.A.7 Code Checking and Member Selection

Code Checking and Member Selection options are both available in the AISC 360 Unified Code implementation in STAAD.Pro.

The collection of load cases used for performing a design check or member selection can be specified as either:
  • all the primary loads and load combinations (default),
  • a LOAD LIST command (see TR.39 荷重リストの設定), or
  • an ENVELOPE option (see TR.40 荷重エンベロープ).

for an ENVELOPE option, the TYPE option used in the envelope definition will determine which checks are performed:

    • If an envelope is of type SERVICABILITY, then these load cases are checked for deflection
    • If an envelope is of type STRENGTH or STRESS, then these load cases are checked for strength. For the strength checks, the program will first consider the slenderness.

The level of detail from the design that is then output into the report depends on the value of the TRACK parameter (see D1.A.6 Design Parameters).

Note: The summary output and header of a detailed output will report the governing criteria as the maximum of the strength and deflection checks which have been performed. However, if the maximum ratio of the slenderness checks exceeds the RATIO parameter, then the governing criteria is the maximum of all the checks. Therefore, if the maximum utilization ratio is less the RATIO parameter, then slenderness is not considered a governing criteria.
